Visiting Grandma and Grandpa

Bennett and I decided to make a trip down to L.A. last Thursday to visit Grandma and Grandpa. We had not seen them since our Mexican Cruise back in early December. J had to work so it was a Bennett and Mommy Roadtrip! I am so lucky that he sleeps for most of the car rides down to L.A. we take -- it makes it so much easier to travel with him.

But shopping with him? Not so easy. My Mom and I went to the Cabazon outlet near my parent's house and Bennett was a wee bit tough to deal with that morning. He refused to get into his stroller and every store we went into, he would run and hide under the clothes racks. I spent most of my time looking for him and trying to get him into his stroller so I could do even a tiny bit of shopping, but it was a no go. Bennett now likes to showcase his defiance by falling on the floor and becoming completely rigid, making it difficult to pick him up and put him anywhere.

The highlight of the weekend was our day trip to Joshua Tree. It was my first time as well as Bennett's first time visiting Joshua Tree. We started from the southern end of the park, at Cottonwood Springs and worked our way up the windy, desert roads. Stopped by the "Cholla Cactus Garden" which made me think of the cholas I went to school with in Junior High - bangs spiked straight up with hairspray, pencil thin eyebrows, black lip liner. Here's Bennett pretending to be a Cholla Cactus:

And then there were all these rocks! Bennett loved seeing all the big rocks, since he is you know, a "collector" of rocks - though these were way too big to bring home. We did a little climbing and searching for coyotes (Bennett kept asking whether there were coyotes in the desert and if they were still sleeping). By the time we made it out the north end of the park, through the town of Joshua Tree (oh and yes - we did see a ton of Joshua Trees everywhere) everyone was exhausted. It was a great day!

We also visited the San Bernardino County Museum. Bennett really wanted to go to see animals at the zoo - but this was enough to make him happy.

Finally, today we went to church at the L.A. Cathedral. As we are not regular churchgoers, I told Bennett we were going to God's House. Bennett prays to God every night. Once the Mass was over, he asked me "How come I did not see God's face if this is his house?" How would you answer that question in a way an almost 3 year old would understand?
