Fridays always start with a trip to Bennett's school for his 30 minutes "dance" class. It never begins well, as he almost always has a melt down prior to going inside. "I don't WANT TO!" along with lots of stomping and pouty faces. Miss Shannon, his teacher knows the drill though. She picks him up (while he is still screaming and crying) and says "don't you want to help me get the other kids for class?" I leave at this point, as my presence during this time never, ever helps. After thirty minutes, I come back to get him and he's got this big smile on his face as he rushes to me, holding out the back side of his hand to show off the sticker he got for doing such a good job in class.
"Did you have fun?" I ask?
"Yes, mommy! I tumbled!"he says.
I wish I could get him to remember how much fun he has every Friday before his class so we don't have to repeat the stomping/crying/screaming scenario each week.
After class, we stopped by the new 99 Ranch near his school. We love this 99 Ranch precisely because it is new which means, for all those who have never been to a 99 Ranch before, it is clean and sparkly and doesn't smell like fish. We ordered Bennett's favorite steamed BBQ pork buns which he insisted we eat at the table. I'm always amazed that he can eat 2 of these things considering how picky he is with food. Though I admit I like to take him here just to eat the steamed bbq pork buns because at least I know he is eating something other than crackers.
Next stop? Cupertino's Friday Farmers Market. What a great, little Farmers Market. Just a row of stands - not a big thing like in Mountain View on Sundays. Bennett and I always start with a small bag of Kettle Popcorn and then we work our way down the row, tasting all the fresh strawberries and oranges and Asian pears and fresh breads. I can't wait until summer when there will be plenty of juicy peaches. Mmmmmmm.
And finally, we stop by the park on our way home. I bought some kid-size garden shovels and a mini-rake that brought with him to the park. We had a blast making "sand cakes" and "sand ice cream" and "sand green beans." It is always such a joy watching him play in the sand, because he always imagines he is cooking something for me. Always. "You want purple ice cream, Mommy? OK!" "You want a jelly sandwich Mommy? OK!" Perhaps he will be a chef someday. OR maybe he is just copying what he see all the time with me, always asking him what he wants to eat. I should stop that and start building lego sky scrapers with him, just in case he wants to be an engineer or something like that:)
