Check "Gone clubbing" off of Bennett's list of Firsts! Bennett attended Baby Loves Disco at the Avalon Nightclub in Santa Clara on Saturday. Imagine hundreds of dancing toddlers getting their groove on out on the dance floor at two in the afternoon. Post-nap time! DJ was spinning the "oldies" 80s music while the MC was urging more and more tots to leave their pre-school troubles behind and let their body move to the music. There were lots of healthy snacks available: carrots, grapes, pretzels crackers and cheese, and also other non-dance activities like tents and hoops and bubbles to entertain the kiddies. But the best part? The BAR was open and tired, worn out parents (and Aunties and Uncles) like me could have themselves a little afternoon cocktail. I haven't been to club in almost a decade, so it was kind of a first for Mommy too! Bennett seemed to really enjoy himself. He danced for a bit, but mostly ran around playing "catch me if you can."
Speaking of music and dance, Bennett has fallen in love with Rihanna's "Umbrella" song and requests it again and again while we're in the car. So yes, we play the same song over and over. Sound like anyone else you know? [hint: Bennett's dad!]
This weekend was also the first time I ever heard Bennett identify colors. He knows Red and Yellow. This is big because at first I thought he just thinks any yellow crayon is called a "yellow" but when I asked him what color a mango is, he said "yellow" which means he gets the concept of color. Wow! He also knows the shape Heart and Star. We worked on Circle today and I think he's got it, and as soon as he learns that we'll work on Square. No pressure though.
