It was nothing like ER, the TV show, or even Grey's Anatomy.
We brought Bennett to the Stanford ER last night because he has been pooping diarrhea every 15 minutes all day long. My hands are chapped from changing diapers constantly and washing my hands to try not to get whatever Bennett has. The advice nurse on the phone said we should bring him in because he might be dehydrated. After a long, long night of endless waiting (4 hours) , Bennett endured 4 rectal temperature takings, hunger, thirst, fatigue -- all for a 2 second pop-in by the onsite physician who said he had a stomach virus aka "stomach flu". Give him lots of fluids. Have a good night.
I made a vow from then on that unless Bennett is bleeding or broken, I'll wait until Monday to see his pediatrician thank you very much. It wasn't so much the wait that was unbearable - it was the wait combined with a sick, crying, cranky, irritable, poopy diaper-filled, screaming 9 month old PLUS two cranky parents who hadn't eaten dinner and a closed hospital cafeteria next door. For 4 hours! No wonder they had movies in the rooms - we could have watched two of them. So we're home today, just waiting it out. Bennett is finally getting a little sleep.
OK, now that I've gotten all of that out of my system - here are some pix of our sick little peanut at the hospital:
