We've only been in Pasadena for four days, but already there's alot going on! After what I can only describe as days of Hellish packing up of our house, the drive down was pretty uneventful. There was a moment of panic as we climbed up the Tejon Pass past the Grapevine and I saw smoke coming out of John's car, but that didn't last too long and we still made it.
We happened to arrive in the middle of a really hot spell in L.A. with the thermostat hitting 95 or so. After getting the key to our apartment, we found out the A/C didn't work. That's just no way to move stuff in! Eventually the handyman came to fix everything and we were good to go. Bennett's Grandma drove her van over filled with her patio furniture (which we are using as our dining table) and other things that I would never of thought of but which turned out to be very useful.)
J started his new job on Wednesday and is loving it! He got to meet his new boss (Ashton!!) and jump right into meetings. I think he is on Cloud 9.
Ben and I have been busy trying out new parks and hanging out at our new place. It's a 2 bed, 2 bath with wood floors on the first floor of a condo complex. The location is great for us because it is so easy just to walk out the door and go get something to eat, or walk to Trader Joes or to Macys. I'm impressed with how sound proof it is too. I hear the usual footsteps above us now and then, but pretty much the noise level is really low.
We also enrolled Bennett in his new school called Kids Klub Pasadena. Just got back from "Orientation" with his new teacher, Miss Tabetha, today. I really think he will love it there, but right now is resisting and crying about having to go to a new school. I am also a little worried about what he will eat. They serve really healthy stuff there for their lunch program, but Bennett's diet right now consists of chicken nuggets, jelly sandwiches and ice cream. I hope peer pressure will get him to try new things. Here he is in front of the giant fish tank at his school:
Pasadena is wonderful. So many families with kids here that I can see. Last night we went to Memorial Park where they have free concerts every week in the summer. It was a kid's concert and some of our friends were there so we decided to meet up. I just can't get over how many young families were there. After the concert, we met up with John after work and went to this old school burger/greek and armenian food joint called Burger Continental. They had a brass band that was about to play and Bennett stood up and to our suprise shouted "HIT IT!"
And so begins our life in Southern California.
