Bennett has recently started to develop a fear of dragons. Where he used to be fearless, he now stops short when he sees a dark hallway or dark bedroom and says "I'm scared." It took a little while to figure out what exactly he was afraid of but he finally said it, in a tiny, whispery voice: "Dragons."
From what I have read, this is the age when kids start becoming afraid of the dark and of monsters under the bed. I don't know where the dragons thing came from - we don't watch Dragon Tales or anything dragon-related that I can think of, but if I even mention the word dragon, he gets terribly upset. I had mentioned to him that I wanted to take him to see the Chinese New Year parade in San Francisco to see the "dancing dragons"and got a big N-O.
J gave Bennett a little stuffed toy dragon from his work - it's cute and not so scary, and he seems to be ok with that. I plan on buying a spray bottle and calling it Dragon Spray, so he can spray them away. But other than that, any suggestions on how to slay these dragons?

Nathaniel is starting fears too. He doesn't like ghosts...who blames him...I don't even like ghosts. :)
What I do with Nathaniel before bed or when he's afraid is to let him know that we'll blow them away. So we blow air from our mouths all around the room and make it a safe zone. He's totally fine with a few puffs of air and then he feels safe.
It's great because it's always available whenever you need it so you don't always have to remember to bring a spray. I just knew if I started with a spray that some day, I'd either forget to bring it with me or it would break and then I would have to deal with tears.
i know! hang out with uncle chris, ed, peter, and auntie Riza and cousin lauren sometime during president's day weekend! are you guys around?
Yes, hang with us! Don't know if it will cure the dragon thing, though...Maybe along with the spray bottle sprinkle some salt or pepper to ward off the dragons? This will involve vacuuming though and Frankie will sneeze a lot!
