May he walk 2 miles in my footsteps

Bennett wanted to "seeee da animows" so I thought we'd go to Rancho San Antonio today and walk to the farm. He got very excited - he definitely couldn't wait to "go Old Mac Donnowwww" and visit the cow, the goats, the sheep, the chickens and the big fat pig.

The walk to the farm from the parking lot is approximately 1 mile. It's an easy walk, completely flat and lovely, surrounded by hills and trees. No sweat, I thought. A little stupid seeped into my head when I took Bennett out of the car and decided to forego his stroller, his sippy cup and his snacks. I thought - quick walk to the farm and back and we could have lunch at home and take a nap!

Why did I not take the stroller? Well, I thought a walk would be good for Bennett and this would be one of those rare times we are not walking on a busy street. He likes to run free! He certainly liked not being strapped in a stroller, but wow....that one mile became 10 miles in my head. It took FOREVER and it was hot, and dusty, and ugh - no water.

All that hard work paid off when we got to the farm. Bennett had a blast seeing all the animals and singing E-I-E-I-Oooooooooo over and over again. It was the trip back that was a doozy. Bennett did not want to walk anymore. He was hungry and whiny and cranky - and the World's Most Unpreprepared Mom didn't bring anything!

So I walked a mile back with a 30 pound toddler singing "Yankee Doooodle, macaraoni!" on my shoulders. At least I fit in a workout today!
