I got me a case of the heebie-jeebies and I can't shake it! We just had Josue (pronounced Ho-Sway!) the Exterminator come for a visit because I just couldn't take it anymore. For months I had been hearing strange sounds coming from the ceiling and behind the walls at night. Scratch, scratch...shuffle,shuffle,shuffle. I'd quickly glance over at the cat to see what he was up to but he was always fast asleep, as he usually is and not making a peep. So WHAT was that noise? I mentioned this to some of our neighbors and they all said the same thing: "Oh yeah, we had that. Roof Rats." Say WHAT? They said this so matter-of-factly like it was such a common problem for homeowners (which apparently it is especially near the foothills, like we are). J and I knew there was something up there because our luggage, which we keep stored in the attic, was missing part of the plastic handle and had apparently been gnawed off as part of someone's dinner. I'm shuddering yet again at the thought.
So I called up Ho-Sway, who also sprays our trees and our neighbor's trees for oak worms every year (and I'll have to get to the bee hive story as well in another post!) and told him to get rid of Remy and his friends up in the attic (sorry dude! You need to go become Top Chef someplace else!) I won't tell you how I chose to rid of the rats, because I'm sure I picked something completely politically incorrect and I just don't feel like hearing from the Save The Rats protesters. Anyways, Ho-Sway is coming in two weeks to make sure the deed has been done and to seal up all the holesleading into the house. What a guy! So happy and friendly and he knew so much about vermin of all kinds -- like did you know there is a type of rat common in big cities like New York called Norway Rats that are HUGE but that they are actually rats from China that made their way here on Norwegian boats? Fascinating.
Happy Friday, everyone! Bennett says hi!
