We had such an exhausting weekend! Bennett and I headed to L.A. Thursday morning after Auntie Judy passed away. The whole family was there, so although the reason for our gathering was a sad one, it was nice to be around all our loved ones. John came in on Friday night and he helped out alot with getting all the pictures of Auntie Judy in order and getting a huge 2x3 poster of her made up for the service. We took a quick overnight trip to Beaumont to see Bennett's Grandpa and then back to the Valley on Easter Sunday, readying ourselves for the memorial service on Monday.
By this time, Bennett had caught a cold, but we noticed nothing out of the ordinary. He was active and happy and loved playing with all his aunts and uncles, especially his Uncle Randel! By bedtime though, we noticed his breathing was very labored and fast. We ended up taking him to the ER.
Let me just say something about ERs. We've been to several already - we consider ourselves pros. But this particular ER was just awful. Totally impersonal. They don't even bother to give our sick kid a blanket. They ended up doing a chest xray and the ER doc said he had pneumonia! Before we knew it, Bennett had to be in restraints as 3 people tried to get an IV stuck into his arm (they stuck him 3 times before they were successful). Bennett was screaming and crying "All Done, Mommy! All Done, Daddy!" and I felt so utterly helpless. Bennett is super strong, so he kept trying to tear the IV out which meant they had to tape it up with a board to keep him from bending. Ugh. Absolutely traumatic for all of us.

He ended up being admitted and spent the next 2 nights there, getting antibiotics and oxygen treatments. Bennett did a great job, considering he didn't get to move much and had to stay in bed most of the time. This kid is so brave and so strong. By this morning, he was breathing better and they decided he could make the drive home so long as we had an inhaler for him and gave him puffs of it every four hours.
Turns out the docs now think it wasn't pneumonia, but rather acute bronchiolitis. This just kills me because this is a viral infection which means antibiotics don't do a damn thing! He had to have this stupid IV stuck in his arm for two days and for what? Ugh. Now we know better. Here are the pix.
I did get the chance to leave for an hour or so on Monday though to attend the service for my Great-Aunt and feel good that I was able to say goodbye.

Hey there, I was out of work for a week in early January with acute bronchitus, and there is a bacterial bronchitus; it's not always a virus. After being sick for a week, and not getting any better, I finally saw the doctor and got antibiotics and I felt better within 24 hours. So if he's got bacterial bronchitus, the antibiotics will help. Poor little guy. Sorry you all had to go through this!
argh. how utterly draining! you guys are amazing for hanging tough thru these hard times. i hope benny is feeling better!
