Here's a great lesson in motherhood: even in the most trying moments with your kid, it pays to keep your wits about you. Last night, after picking up B from daycare, we went to Lucky's to pick up some groceries for dinner. Usually Bennett loves grocery shopping but this time his mind was on other things - namely - he had to poop real bad! I kept thinking - well, he has a diaper on, let him poop right here in the pasta section - but he kept screaming and screaming. Should I find a toilet? I could have, but I only had 3 -5 items to pick up (I was making ma-po tofu with the fresh tofu i picked up earlier from San Jose Tofu - worth another blog post sometime), if we went through self checkout and booked it home, he could poop in his own musical toilet. By the time I made it to self-checkout, Bennett was in top form, screaming "poo poo mommy" over and over again, tears streaming down his face. I dont know what I was thinking - I should have just looked for a public toilet. But instead, I threw the groceries in a bag, and away we went. Really fast. Too fast. It was already dark and it wasnt easy to see in the parking lot. In seconds flat, i had thrown the groceries in the trunk, strapped Bennett in and sped down the street the 5 minutes or so it took to get home. He made it to his potty, much to his relief and mine, and was pretty darn happy after about 10 minutes or so.
So - the lesson, right, you all must be waiting for that. The next day (today) I had planned to do some shopping in the morning and take Bennett to the park, but just never managed to get out of the house. By 4:00 in the afternoon, we were finally ready. I had him in the car, we were all set to go, EXCEPT, I couldnt find my black bag anywhere. And then I realized - the last time I saw it it was in the shopping cart, in the dark parking lot of the grocery store - LAST NIGHT. I called Lucky's and they said they had it (whew!) so I drove over there to retrieve it (thank god!). But it had been opened, and there was no wallet and no phone.
So, always keep your wits about you, screaming, poopy baby and all.
