Not quite 13 months old

On June 23 - Bennett will be 13 months old. Some observations:

Bennett is most definitely a Gemini. One minute he's crying and throwing himself on the floor in a state of utter despair over having the dime he picked up off the floor taken away (out of his mouth). The next minute he's the happiest kid on the block laughing at anything and everything that moves. For the most part, he leans more heavily towards the Happy Twin. Today, I dropped him off at daycare and he looked at me as Iwalked away with this look of -- where do you think you're going? You are seriously thinking of leaving ME? Wahhhhhhhhhhhh! ---But when he came back from daycare, he was all smiles. As John barbequed our dinner, Bennett ran around every which way in the back yard, eating cubes of tofu for dinner (mixed with a little bit of dirt he picked up off the ground - -note to grandparents: dirt will not kill you!

He is also an incredibly active kid. Now I know all one year olds are supposed to be active, and i am sure there are some more active than others. I don't know where Bennett would land on the activity scale, but the boy wears me out! He gets lots of rough and tumble play with his dad and he ADORES his dad. For hours its a back and forth game of "I'm gonna getcha" and Tickle Monster. Bennett smiles so big during those times I swear sometimes I see a dimple. When John is home, things are soo much easier. It makes me think how tough it would be to be a single mom of a one year old (or of any year old for that matter). So to single moms everywhere, I salute you.

I noticed his music lessons from daycare have started to sink in. He has this caterpillar toy that plays "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." Now, the minute the song comes on, both his hands automatically go up in the air and his fingers open and close, open and close, like two twinkling little stars. If we play music on the CD player or if he hears it on the radio, he will break into a little Bennett dance where he moves his torso from left to right, left to right, in not so perfect rhythm. If he hears me sing, he'll copy me and start to hum a little ditty too.

And finally, he has a really cute little butt. Like steamed bbq pork bun dim sum. Perfect.
